Do you know when your website was designed?
How about when it was last updated? 🤔
If you're not sure, you're not alone! Once a website is published, often it's yeeaaaarrs before it's touched again!
Websites are a vital resource for businesses to help attract new customers, share important information and to stay competitive. Unfortunately, with changing technology, user behaviour and algorithms - websites *can* become outdated quite quickly.
We've put together 4 key areas to check so your website is not trapped in the annals of time - and is working actively online to do right by your business! 💪
1. Is it easy for customers to use?
Why have a website when your customer can’t (easily) find the info they want? Common issues for many older websites: they're slow, hard to navigate and just out of date overall.
An article by Pixolabo Web stated that ‘up to 53% of all business websites lose their visitors because they find it difficult to explore using the navigation menu’.
DON’T BE THIS BUSINESS! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜¡
Updates are important, making changes to your website will likely do you more good then bad! Don’t be the business that never changes or grows!
2. How does it look on mobile?
Have you ever Googled a business on your phone and the website shows up all wonky and way too big for the screen?
If your website shows up on a customer's phone looking like either of these pics, let’s just say they won't be too impressed. 🙄
2023 stats show that 95.3% of Australians use mobile phones to access the internet (genroe.com). If your website looks terrible on mobile, they'll be clicking away from your business in no time.
How to fix it? Your website might need a total refresh, designed for "mobile first".
3. How does your website rank on Google?
You know when you search up ‘Plumber’ on Google, a bunch of different businesses pop up, which one are going to pick? Bets are on that it'll be within the first three organic results, and definitely on the first page of results! (We're not making it up - check out the organic click-through-rates for Google rankings here).
Having a good Google ranking helps with brand recognition, click through rates, and helps you stay competitive.
Google rewards websites that are updated frequently with genuinely helpful content (hear it straight from the horse's mouth
here). So yes, regular (helpful!) updates are important to maintain or improve your Google ranking!
4. Can you update it yourself?
Long gone are the days when anything website-related required a custom site and a crazy amount of coding (thank goodness!!)?
Nowadays, there are website platforms that are user friendly and make website changes a breeze. Using one of these many platforms will allow you to easily update the website when needed.
If you don't know how to update your website - or if your website is 'gate kept' by your web developer - then perhaps it's time for a change!
